Rebirth for Uk'Shiu
The first time I was born, I had five siblings. We were parts of a greater whole. Six dragons born of a Goddess’ design but spurned her. Yet, as time and fate would conspire along with our own own growth, eventually it would turn my siblings against me.
My punishment for the loss of my successors and destruction I wrought, was a divine prison. Beneath the ocean, in a cavern that no light but the one the goddess provided did I exist. Rage at what could have been devoured me for so long I don’t know what kept me sane.
Eventually, a second resident was added to my cave. My opposite sibling of white scales was cast down into the cave. Bloody, beaten and barely clinging to life, just as I had arrived. Our siblings had turned on them as well. I mocked my sibling, savouring its futile flailing against the power that kept us here.
Where my power of fire and water was empty here, my sibling had plentiful resources of stone and air. Only, the seal stopped their access to move even a pebble without direct contact. A fact I enjoyed mocking them with. One who had been so proud of their capacity now was helpless as I had been. It was delicious.
But even that grew wearisome after enough time. We eventually stopped interacting.
Nothing new Happened. Nothing Changed. It was just us and our cave. Time and living lost all meaning.
And then, I was reborn.
Something new walked into my prison. It was much smaller than my grand form. Blue scales covered it in places and something familiar resonated from its very being. I watched it walk past my sibling with only a terse word, which sent a shiver down my spine. This creature didn’t fear my sibling?
“I am Ru’Sala, successor to Ieak’Osh. I’ve come for you,” the small creature spoke. I had no answer to give. So, the creature placed its paw upon my face.
The world outside of us fell away. I saw memories flit past. Ru’Sala had been created by the selfsame as myself. Only, they had been alone. No, not alone, guided by others. One I recognized, this ‘Ieak’Osh’ was my blue sibling. They had guided this Ru’Sala.
However, there was a second one. Lesser in all aspects but more vicious and cunning. Cowardly and sadistic. A second soul attached to Ru’Sala. Yet, though Ru’Sala risked his soul, opening to share his life and self, the other didn’t. In a dark corner, it sat quietly.
I turned back to Ru’Sala’s memories. Pain had been a familiar friend. And then we came upon the most recent of his memories. The end of my sibling and passing of his power. Ru’Sala had bested my sibling and taken his place..
And even after attaining such power, he risked it to save me, an act Ieak’Osh had lacked the conviction to do.
This Ru’Sala then spoke a simple offer, “Would you like to come with me?”
No expectations of me, only to be there by his side. Cradled in that embrace, I shed the form of the Black Dragon I had been born into. I became something mixed just like Ru’Sala. IIt was then that the Goddess who had trapped me, moved me to the den of Ru’Sala. Beneath the twinkling stars, his arms wrapped around me.
“What will my name be?”
“Uk’Shiu. Dangerous eyes. They’re a threat to swallow me whole,” Ru’Sala teased as he passed a hand through my new, vibrantly red hair.
That was the moment I was reborn. And I would spend the night getting acquainted with my new flesh thanks to my mate. But those are stories for different settings.
